Canyon County, Idaho Inmate Search
An inmate search is a means of verifying whether an individual is in jail custody and obtaining all relevant information about the person’s stay in jail. A search helps determine the inmate’s precise location, arrest details, custody information, and may provide information on the associated court case.
In Canyon County, individuals arrested or with short-term sentences are usually kept in the Canyon County Detention Center. The detention center is operated and managed by the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office. The detention center comprises several facilities; however, they operate under a unified system. This uniform custodial system allows individuals to perform a search without visiting each facility separately.
How to Find an Inmate in Canyon County Jail
Individuals can generally find an inmate in the Canyon County Detention Center by searching the county’s online Jail Roster. The roster includes information on individuals in the county jail and the work release center. It may also contain information on adults with juvenile offenses, juveniles with adult charges, individuals held on civil contempt cases, and participants in outside programs, such as the Sheriff’s Inmate Labor Detail and Pretrial Release and Intensive Community Supervision. Inquirers may also use the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office Mobile App or the Current Arrests portal if the inmate is a recent arrestee.
While online searches are the most convenient way to find an inmate, researchers should note that the charges listed in the roster might not accurately reflect the actual charges filed by the prosecuting attorney or the inmate’s current status. To obtain accurate details or verify information seen on the roster, individuals may call the jail at (208) 454-7541. It is also possible to obtain information in person at the Sheriff’s Office or at the detention center.

How to Use the Canyon County Jail Roster
The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office maintains the official Canyon County Jail Roster, which is accessible to the public on the Sheriff’s website from both computers and mobile devices.
To access the full roster, users should navigate to the Sheriff’s website homepage and locate the "Jail Roster" button on the right-hand menu. Clicking this button redirects users to a portal where they can search for an inmate by name (last or first) or by the first letter of their name.
Alternatively, users can view "Current Arrests" by selecting that option from the same right-hand menu. Note that the "Current Arrests" portal only allows users to scroll through the list, as a search function is not available.
What Information is Included in the Canyon County Inmate Roster
The Canyon County inmate roster is a public record and is subject to the disclosure rules set forth in the Idaho Public Records Act. Common information that may be found about an inmate includes
- Full name under which they were booked and their age
- Mugshot
- Physical traits, such as gender, height, and weight
- Jail ID number and housing unit

Also, under Idaho Code § 74-10, an inmate cannot view another inmate’s records.

Jail Facility Overview in Canyon County
The Canyon County jail system is managed by the Sheriff’s Office and houses adult pre-trial detainees and sentenced inmates. The jail consists of three facilities: the Dale G. Haile Detention Center, the Jail Annex, and the Tent Facility (Pod 5).
The Dale G. Haile Detention Center is the primary high-security holding facility, opened in 1993. It has a holding capacity of 321 inmates, of which 40 are designated for work-release inmates and 34 for special management units.
The Jail Annex began operation in 1948 and has a capacity of up to 34 inmates. The inmates are housed on separate floors and require two deputies for accurate monitoring.
The Tent Facility was launched in 2006 and has an inmate capacity of 122. The facility was initially intended for work-release inmates, but eventually started housing general population inmates due to the overcrowding issues faced in the other facilities. As of early 2026, the Canyon County Board of Commissioners is in the process of creating a new facility, Pod 6, specifically for the female population, to help tackle overcrowding.
Researchers can utilize the Canyon County Jail Statistics Portal to obtain up-to-date information about the jail’s population, facility classification, facility utilization, and other county housing.

How to Send Money to an Inmate in Canyon County Detention Center
Sending money to an inmate in the Canyon County Detention Center is split into two categories: commissary funds for food and personal items, and communication funds for phone calls and video visits.
Funds for inmate commissary, also called a trust fund account in the county, are managed by a third-party vendor, which may be found on the "Inmate Commissary" tab of the detention center’s website. Individuals may deposit money into an inmate’s account on the vendor’s website by credit or debit card. Alternatively, individuals may deposit money in person at the jail’s visitation lobby. Commissary orders made by inmates are delivered on Saturdays. To be delivered, they must have the funds in their account by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays at the latest; otherwise, the order may be moved to the following delivery on Saturday. Depositors should note that the Detention Center no longer accepts money orders and cash, even at the lobby kiosk.
Individuals may deposit money into an inmate’s communications account online through a different third-party vendor stated on the "Inmate Visitation" tab of the detention center’s website. Deposits may also be made at the lobby kiosk in the detention center.
Inmate Search by Jail Facility
All inmates in Canyon County are generally held at the county detention center, the county’s primary jail. Although there are separate facilities in the detention center, all inmates are managed centrally by the Sheriff’s Office, irrespective of their housing location.
Individuals can search for an inmate in any facility on the Canyon County Jail Roster or the Sheriff’s Mobile App. The inmate may also be found on the Current Arrests portal if they were recently arrested, as explained earlier. Alternatively, inquiries may be made in person or by calling the jail. Inquirers should note that confidential information may not be disclosed without authorization.
Canyon County Visitation Rules and Schedules
In Canyon County, inmate visitation is primarily conducted via video rather than face-to-face contact. Individuals can choose between visiting for free at a kiosk in the jail lobby or paying for a remote visit from their home.
Individuals may schedule a visit online on the third-party vendor’s website (the same one for funding communications accounts). Visitation is allowed from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., 12:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., all days of the week. However, inmates will not be allowed to receive visitors during lockdown time. Inmates should inform potential visitors of their allowed visit times to avoid denial. An inmate may also be denied visitation privileges as a disciplinary measure or if the detention center cannot accommodate visitation at that particular time.
The fee for remote video is 20 cents per minute. Individuals can learn more about video visitation by reviewing the visitation rates.
Mailing and Commissary Information
Friends, family, and legal representatives can send mail to an inmate in the Canyon County Detention Center. However, not all mail is sent to the same address. Personal mail is not sent directly to the detention center but to a third-party address in Kentucky (see the Inmate Mail section of the detention center’s page on the Sheriff’s Office website for the complete address). At the third-party address, the mail will be inspected to confirm compliance with jail rules, then scanned and sent to the inmate electronically. Legal mail is to be sent directly to the jail in the following format.
